THE 5 W’S OF THE LIGHTHOUSE CHURCH

WHO started it all?
The Senior and Founding Pastor, Sonny Hurd , and his wife Debbie.

WHAT were they thinking?
That they would start a church that would help the Hamilton area with life-relevant, every day issues.  This new church would be designed to reach those who don't go to church, or who had given up on church.  They would do this by having great uplifting music in a relaxed atmosphere, and do everything they could to make sure everyone felt like they matter.

WHEN did Lighthouse open its doors?
Lighthouse launched in May of 1997. Sonny and Debbie did everything from carry music equipment, set up chairs, or mop up the meeting area.  My, have things changed since then!

WHERE did this church first take root?
The deck at Sonny & Debbie’s house is where they gathered for the first time.  Since then, Lighthouse has had one other home at the realty building on Peck Blvd. in Hamilton. We're so thankful for our church building at 626 Ridgelawn Avenue. (It is an older building but we are growing in it)

WHY do we do what we do the way we do it?
We've done our homework, and found out that people avoid church because they have to dress up, because they can't find meaning in what they hear, and especially because it's BORING!  We want to strip away all of those barriers.  This is why we offer great music with a band, messages with topics relevant to everyday life, and a casual relaxed atmosphere.  There's no dress code - jeans are great!  We believe people matter to God, and he accepts us just the way we are, and Lighthouse does too!
